How much does a consultation cost?
  • An initial consultation is $180
  • Follow up consultations are $120
  • Personalised ante-natal consultations are $150
  • Online / video consultations are charged at the same rate as face-to-face
  • Additional travel charges (from $45) apply for more than 30-40 min travel time (see map for details)
How long is the Consultation?
  • Initial consultation usually run for 90 minutes.
  • Follow up consultations usually run for 60 minutes.
  • Personalised ante-natal consultations usually run for 90 minutes.
  • Longer consultations available by negotiation.
What should I expect from the Consultation?

Our consultations are warm and supportive.  We aim to help you and your baby overcome the difficulties you are experiencing so you can go on to have an enjoyable breastfeeding relationship.

The initial consultation includes:
  • Taking a breastfeeding history
  • Discussion of the concerns you are having
  • Observation of a breastfeed
  • Infant breastfeeding and oral assessment
  • Support and provision of management strategies specific to your situation
  • Develop a follow up management plan
  • Referral to support services as appropriate
  • Answers any questions you may have during the consultation as they arise 
  • Follow up emails as needed
  • You will be provided with a detailed receipt for health fund rebates if available through your health fund.  You are responsible for liaising with your private health fund to determine if a rebate is eligible and to claim the rebate
Do I need a doctor's referral to see a lactation consultant?​No you don't need a referral to come and see us.
What should I bring to my appointment?
  • Your baby
  • Any questions you have (write them down if you prefer)
  • Any breastfeeding aids that you are currently using (nipple shield, breastfeeding pillow etc.)
  • Spare nappy, change mat and change of clothes for your baby
  • Wear clothing that is easy for you to breastfeed in
  • If your baby is currently having any expressed breast milk or formula, bring enough for his/her usual feed
  • Your baby's Health Record Book (Blue Book)
  • Anything else you feel you might need  
Can I bring a support person with me?
​Yes you are welcome to bring a support person if you wish.
Is the Consultation fee claimable through my Health Fund?​Rebates are available from many Health Funds.
What if I can't make my appointment?
Please inform us as soon as possible if you can't make your appointment as another mother may benefit from taking your time slot.  A cancellation fee may be incurred if less than 24 hours notice is given.

I wasn't able to breastfeed my first baby for as long as I wanted.  How can I help make this breastfeeding experience better?
Book in for a personalised ante-natal consultation.  Talking through your experience with someone knowledgeable in breastfeeding matters can help to identify potential problems, and bring to light reasons for the problems experienced with your first baby. 

Being aware of potential difficulties means that they can be addressed and solved earlier.

We can help you gain the necessary information and confidence essential for successful breastfeeding.
Is there an age limit for the babies you will see?
No, we are happy to assist with babies of all ages.
